Who is the course for?

Learners will prepare and maintain the working environment for Aseptic manufacture and dispensing of medicinal products in cleanrooms as well as manufacture and assemble medicinal products. This involves checking and preparing materials and using specialist science-based manufacturing process plants or equipment. They monitor the process and take action to resolve deviations. Maintaining the work area is part of the role. They contribute to quality control, continuous improvement, and problem-solving activities. They also complete work records, which are important in regulated workplaces

In their daily work, they interact with other science operatives and pharmacy technicians, along with colleagues from other business functions.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements for the Science Manufacturing Process Operative Apprenticeship. However, learners would usually have:

  • GCSE English at Grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • GCSE Maths at Grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • GCSE Science at Grade C or above (or equivalent)

We would carry out:

  • BKSB assessments for English / Mathematics
  • Skills scan to identify the current level of KSB

If learners do not hold the qualifications above it is a requirement of the apprenticeship for them to enrol on Maths and English Functional Skills at Level 2. Skills4Pharmacy has an experienced dedicated team to support learners to achieve this whilst on the programme with us.


How will learners be taught?

  • Live online sessions are delivered every two weeks on Microsoft Teams by experienced subject specialist tutors.
  • On-demand, one-to-one support as and when required.
  • Quarterly formal progress reviews.
  • Access to our online training platform.
  • Support from a dedicated educational supervisor in the workplace.
