Our Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard for Laboratory Technicians is recognised by the Science Council. We offer a bespoke approach for our employers to ensure the course content is relevant to the industry and learners’ needs.

What the course includes
This apprenticeship provides the relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours suitable for a wide range of specialisms, including chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, formulated products, nuclear companies; science services, dental laboratories and educational establishments. Apprentices will be placed on the appropriate pathway relevant to their sector. This includes; Biomedical, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Dental. For all pathways, apprentices will develop expertise in laboratory operations, from health and safety in the laboratory to analysing data.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for the Laboratory Technician. However, learners would usually have:
- GCSE English at Grade C or above (or equivalent)
- GCSE Maths at Grade C or above (or equivalent)
- GCSE Science at Grade C or above (or equivalent)
If learners do not hold the qualifications above it is a requirement of the apprenticeship for them to enrol on Maths and English Functional Skills at Level 2. We have an experienced, dedicated team to support learners to achieve this whilst on the programme with us.

12 months + EPA.
Apprentices will earn at least the Apprenticeship minimum wage.
