Lakshmi’s journey in pharmacy began in 2015 at Sharoe Green Pharmacy, where she started her Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship. Driven by a passion for helping others and providing person-centred care, she quickly realised her potential and progressed onto the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship to expand her knowledge and skills.
Her commitment to learning didn’t stop there. After completing her apprenticeship, Lakshmi transitioned into teaching and mentoring, joining Skills4Pharmacy as a tutor. She has since gained multiple qualifications, including an Assessing and Teaching Award and an Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification in 2023. Now, as the Level 2 Quality and Curriculum Course Lead, she plays a vital role in quality-assuring learner portfolios, mentoring Level 2 tutors, and developing engaging course content to ensure learners receive the best possible experience.
For Lakshmi, the most fulfilling part of her role is still helping others, whether supporting tutors or ensuring apprentices get the best learning experience. “I love working with tutors to help them support their learners. Creating course content that gives apprentices the best experience possible is incredibly rewarding.” Claire, Lakshmi’s tutor, notes the positive impact Lakshmi’s dedication and motivation have had on her fellow learners and the wider delivery team. “Lakshmi is a valuable asset to Skills4Pharmacy and the Level 2 delivery team.”
Like any career journey, there have been challenges, particularly managing a high workload and the pressures that come with responsibility. However, Lakshmi credits Skills4Pharmacy for their continued support and encouragement. “Skills4Pharmacy has motivated me and opened doors within my career. The support from Skills4Pharmacy managers has helped me grow in my skills, knowledge, and confidence. They’re always approachable and there when I need them.”
For anyone considering an apprenticeship, Lakshmi believes it’s the best way to learn and grow. “Apprenticeships are the way forward! Learning on the job while gaining knowledge and theory along the way is the perfect blend of education. The courses at Skills4Pharmacy have helped me develop as a professional and as a person, embedding key skills like British Values, Maths, English, and safeguarding.”
Looking ahead, Lakshmi is excited about her future. Currently working towards her Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher Apprenticeship, she hopes to one day step into a management role at Skills4Pharmacy. “I want to support other colleagues and share my experience and knowledge to help them grow in their careers, just like I have.”
Lakshmi’s journey is a testament to how apprenticeships can open doors, foster growth, and lead to incredible career progression – from apprentice to educator, and beyond!
