Expanding the Pharmacy Technician workforce in Community Pharmacy

NHS England Workforce, Training and Education (WT&E) has officially launched its next wave of funding to support the recruitment and training of 525 Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians (PTPTs) across community pharmacy settings over a 24-month apprenticeship.

The funding is available for new PTPTs who have not enrolled in or begun training. Training placements must begin between September 2025 and 31 October 2025.

Funding Support

NHSE WT&E is offering a training contribution of £15,053 per trainee, per year for two years (24 months) to support community pharmacies in developing a PTPT programme.

Application process

  • NHSE will start notifying outcomes from funding submissions the week commencing 21 July 2025

  • PTPTs will need to be enrolled and have started the apprenticeship training programme from September 2025 to 31 October 2025.
